Edward L. “Eddie” Keller, 88 of Russell, Kansas died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Main Street Manor in Russell.
Eddie was born July 31, 1925 in Bunker Hill, Kansas the son of David D. and Pauline (Ehrlich) Keller. He grew up in the Bunker Hill area and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1943. He then joined the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. After the war he returned to Bunker Hill and started farming.
Eddie was united in marriage to Doris Ehrlich on July 20, 1947 in Bunker Hill. This union was blessed with two children; Danny and Laura. They made their home on a farm north of Bunker Hill for nine years before moving to Russell.
Eddie continued to farm when he started to work for the City of Russell. He worked for the City for several years before retiring in 1988 as Street Superintendent. He then worked a few years for the County of Russell. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, Russell American Legion Post #99 and the Bunker Hill Historical Society. He enjoyed looking for rocks and fossils, hunting, carpentry work and tinkering.
Eddie’s surviving family include his wife of 66 years, Doris of the home; son, Danny A. Keller (Roxanne) of Colby, Kansas; daughter, Laura E. Seirer (Dennis) of Russell, Kansas; three grandchildren, Bria Colyer, Brandon Seirer and Casey Seirer; and great granddaughter Jaelynne Seirer. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Violet Vogler.
Celebration of Eddie’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard. A private burial will take place before the service. The family requests no visitation. A memorial has been established with the Bunker Hill Historical Society. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.
