Donald Duane Bushnell, 87 of Spring Hill, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Blackhawk Assisted Living Facility in Spring Hill.
Donald was born March 15, 1927 in speed, Kansas, the son of George and Effie (Pool) Bushnell. Don lived his early years on the family farm in Speed, Kansas and graduated from Phillipsburg High School. After high school he served his country in the Korean War from 1950 thru 1953.
He was united in marriage to Patti Lou Stephenson on June 4, 1950 at Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union was born two children; Debra and Lonnie.
In 1954 they moved to Russell, Kansas where Don worked for Murfin Drilling Company for several years and then worked for Michel Decorating as a painter for many years.
Don was a lifetime member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He loved to fish, play cards, drink coffee with his friends and spend time with his family.
Don moved from Russell to Spring Hill in 2008 to be closer to family. He lived in an assisted living facility there until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patti, brothers Alden and Willie F.
Survivors include his children, daughter, Debra Hertel (Dennis) of Wichita, KS, son Lonnie Bushnell (Mary) of Gardner, KS, two grandchildren, Chad Bushnell and Brandi Sheldon (Kris), and one great grandson, Brock Bushnell, brother Delvan and sister Sheryl, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas with the Russell V.F.W. Honor Guard conducting Military Rites. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 1 PM Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 11 AM to 1 PM. A Memorial has been established with Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
