Dean Wilbur Voos, 85, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Dean was born September 7, 1930 in Russell, the son of John O. and Ophelia A. (Dumler) Voos. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School.
Dean served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his tour of duty he returned to the Russell area.
Dean was united in marriage to Eleonore L. Lauster on March 1, 1952 in Stuttgart, Germany. This union was blessed with four children; Bob, Connie, Tammy and John. They made their home in Russell. Eleonore preceded him in death on February 3, 2009.
Dean worked in the oil fields his whole life, mainly as a pumper. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was Past Commander of Russell American Legion Post 99 from 1970 to 71. He was Past Commander of the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 from 1977 to 78. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved watching his children and grandchildrenís sporting events.
Surviving family include two sons; Bob Voos (Elaine) of Russell, Kansas and John Voos (Kim) of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Connie McMillen (Ken) of Mesa, Arizona and Tammy Krug of Russell, Kansas; Companion Dorothy Funk of Russell, Kansas; ten grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eleonore, sister Twila Wilson, and brother Darrel Voos.
Celebration of Deanís Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 24 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery where Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will be conducting Military Rites. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Memorials have been established with the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 or St. John Lutheran Church.
