Caesar Hubert Nuss, 94, of Russell, Kansas died on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.
Caesar was born December 26, 1916, the son of Adam and Mary (Steinert) Nuss. He was united in marriage to Josephine (Wenger) on April 6, 1950 in Russell, Kansas. She preceded him in death February 17, 1992. He also was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Elmer, Herbert, and Marvin.
Caesar was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. He was a member of the Sunflower Polka Club, life member of both the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge, a “Booster” member of the VFW, and a member of the “Eagles Lodge” in Great Bend, KS.
Caesar was raised in the Russell area. He was employed by the “Hoisington Ocha Produce Company” at the age of 16. He then worked for the “Russell Ice Plant” and the “Puritan Cafe”. He later opened a liquor store in Russell, worked for “Sellens Pool Hall”, and then the “Steinle Shoe Store” for thirteen years. He and Josephine relocated to Raytown, MO in 1965 where he managed the “Dandos Men & Boys Wear” apparel store. He retired from this employer after fifteen years. He and Josephine then relocated back to Russell in 1980.
After he sold his home in Russell, Caesar then resided in the “Parkside Manor” retirement apartment complex several years. He is survived by several nieces and nephews living in the Midwestern States.
A celebration of Caesar’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Caesar will be buried by his wife in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
