Robert Waldean “Bob” Krug, 71 of Russell died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his home in Russell, Kansas.
Bob was born May 4, 1940 in Hays, Kansas the son of Albert Wesley and Mollie (Reisig) Krug. He grew up south of Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1958. After graduation he began his career in agriculture working with his father and brother in Russell and Thomas Counties.
Bob served his country in the Army Reserves during the Berlin Crisis. He was assigned to Ft. Sam Houston in Texas. He then graduated from Ft. Hays State University in 1964.
Bob was united in marriage to Marlene K. Thaete on June 7, 1964 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas. This union was blessed with a son, Daniel. They made their home in Colby, Kansas for a few years before moving to Russell. Bob continued farming for nearly 50 years before retiring in 2004.
Bob was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. He served on the Russell City Council for over 18 years, the Russell School Board for 12 years, a member of the Russell American Legion Post 99, Agco Board member and Russell Elks Lodge.
He enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, and working in his yard and garden.
Surviving family include his wife of 47 years, Marlene of the home; son Daniel Krug and wife Linda of Russell, Kansas; brother, Morris Krug and wife Barbara of Russell, Kansas; sister, Pauline Alksnis of Woodland, California; and two grandchildren, Lindsy Harders and Zachary Harders. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, June 23, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7PM. A memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
