Ardyth Elaine “Ardie” Austin, 73 of Russell died Friday, March 9, 2012 at St. John’s Nursing Center in Victoria, Kansas.
Ardie was born November 27, 1938 in Barnard, Kansas the daughter of Emerson and Muriel (Wallace) Good. She grew up in Barnard and graduated from Barnard High School in 1955. She then later attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1962, with a degree in Elementary Education.
Ardie was united in marriage to Leonard Austin on August 16, 1959 in Barnard. This union was blessed with a son, Anthony. They made their home in Barnard until they both finished with college and then moved to Holyoke, Colorado. Then in 1989 they moved to Russell.
Ardie was a devoted wife and homemaker. She enjoyed helping Leonard with the ranch and taking care of Anthony. Early in life she taught school near Lincoln, Kansas in a country school.
Ardie was a member of the Paradise United Methodist church. She loved the outdoors, gardening, flowers, baking and later in life traveling the country. Ardie and Leonard were “Snowbirds” from 2001 to 2007 in Arizona and New Mexico.
Surviving family include her husband of 52 years Leonard of the home; son, Anthony Austin and fiancé Erryn of Hays, Kasnas; four brothers, Arnold Good of Lincoln, Kansas, David Good of Sylacauga, Alabama, and Harold Good and John Good both of Barnard, Kansas; sister, Marilyn Serrien of Lincoln, Kansas; and one granddaughter, Michaela. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Nancy MacFee.
Celebration of Ardie’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the Paradise United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Fairport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM on Monday, March 12. Memorials have been established with Paradise United Methodist Church or St. John’s Nursing Center in Victoria.
