Margareta A. (Brunholtz) Long, 89 of Russell, Kansas, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas.
Margareta was born September 1, 1923 in Bretsedt, Germany, the daughter of Rudolph and Dora (Hamm) Brunholtz. At six weeks of age, Margareta and her family traveled by ship to Ellis Island and then on to Cario, Nebraska. She grew up in Cario and graduated from Cairo High School.
Margareta met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Earl Raymond Long on September 7, 1943 in Salina, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children; Steven and Linda. They made their home in Russell, Kansas. Raymond preceded her in death on August 25, 1997.
Margareta was a cook at Russell High School from 1973 until her retirement in 1993. She was also very active on the family farm.
Margareta was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church of Bunker Hill. She also belonged to the Russell V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and taking care of her cattle on the family farm.
Surviving family include her son, Steven Long of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Linda Tripp of Salina, Kansas; sister, Donna Vogel (Joe) of Red Cloud, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Heath (Terri Jane) Long, Jarrod Long, Wade (Tracie) Tripp and Staci (Don) Clemmer; and three great grandchildren.
Celebration of Margareta’s Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating. A private family interment will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A Memorial has been established with the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
