Mary Katherine Greenwood, 98, passed away May 31, 2014, at Beatrice Hover Assisted Living in Longmont, Colorado.
She was born September 1, 1915, at Piper, Kansas, to George Elbert Rexroad and Marie Edith Riggenbach Rexroad.
She graduated from high school at Madison, Kansas and married Thomas Jefferson Greenwood on November 16, 1934, at Emporia, Kansas. They moved from Madison to Russell in 1936 where Tom worked for Cities Service and Mary was a homemaker. They had one daughter, Gloria Gene Hinz.
Mary enjoyed doing needlework and painting. She was active in Eastern Star and helped with the Rainbow Girls organization. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was active in a circle and volunteered over 2000 hours at the Family Thrift Center until her late 80ís.
Mary and Tom loved to travel and spent many vacations in Colorado as well as traveling with a local group of seniors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 71 years, Tom, sister Natalie Collins, and brother Gene Rexroad.
She is survived by her daughter Gloria Hinz (Roger), grandchildren Megan Gomez (Daniel) and Derek Hinz (Danielle) and great-grandchildren Spencer Gomez, Olivia Gomez, Saffron Hinz and Lennon Hinz, all of Longmont, Colorado.
Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m. on June 7, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell with Pastor John Thompson officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. The family has requested that memorials be given to the Trinity United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary. Cremation has been selected by the family and visitation will take place the day of the service. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
