Vernon Krug, 66 of Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, June 16, 2014, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Vernon was born on May 10, 1948 in Russell, the son of Rudolph C. and Lorraine (Muth) Krug. He grew up and attended school in Russell. His first job was washing and cleaning cars at Bill Giwicke Motors in Russell. He also enjoyed working with DSNWK as a wood worker. He was a longtime Trinity Bender Hill Lutheran Church member and later in life was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Sunflower 4-H Club for several years. Most of his life he wanted to be a cowboy and enjoyed rodeos, horses and collecting cowboy belt buckles. He also enjoyed 4 wheeling in his scooter, teaching and spending time with his nieces and nephew. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his mother Lorraine Krug of Russell; brother Wayne Krug, sisters Juanita Flegler and husband Melvin and Shirley Arnhold and husband Ben all from Russell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
A celebration of Vernonís life will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the mortuary. Memorials may be given to DSNWK and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
