Frieda Rosa (Hofstetter) Pfortmiller, 97, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas.
Frieda was born October 17, 1917 in rural Osborne County, the daughter of Henry and Minna (Beisner) Hofstetter. She grew up and attended country schools in Osborne County north of Natoma. When Friedaís mother passed away in 1936, she helped raise her brothers.
Frieda was united in marriage to Arnold Alvin Pfortmiller on January 9, 1944 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Natoma. This union was blessed with four children; Roger, David, Carolyn and Sondra. They made their home in the rural Natoma area. Arnold preceded her in death on October 29, 1982.
Frieda was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and farmerís wife. She was confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1929 and is a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and Womenís Guild. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, needle work, drawing, writing poems and babysitting for family and friends.
Surviving family include her two sons, Roger Pfortmiller of Linwood, Kansas and David Pfortmiller of Beloit, Kansas; two daughters, Carolyn Bigham (Jerry) of Luray, Kansas and Sondra Pfortmiller of Wichita, Kansas; three brothers, Ernest Hofstetter of Plainville, Kansas, Edwin Hofstetter of Leavenworth, Kansas and Paul Hofstetter of Hill City, Kansas; and five grandchildren; Ben Bigham, Amanda Viets, Desi Richards, Darshay Frederking and Deaira Pfortmiller. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and great grandson Hudson James Viets.
Celebration of Friedaís Life will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Peace Lutheran Church of Natoma with Pastor Michael Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow at the North Lutheran Cemetery north of Natoma. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to Service time Thursday morning at the church. A Memorial has been established with the Peace Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
