Winifred Eva (Benton) Teppe, 92, of Dorrance, Kansas passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell, Kansas.
Winifred was born February 1, 1923 in Walker, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Burns) Benton. She grew up in Walker until high school when she moved to Dorrance. She graduated from Dorrance High School.
Winifred was united in marriage to Elton August Teppe on April 27, 1943 in Walker. They made their home on the farm southwest of Dorrance. This union was blessed with three children; Elton, Jr., Betty and Ann. They were married for 67 years when Elton passed away on April 16, 2011.
Winifred was a devoted wife and homemaker. She spent her time taking care of the children and working side by side with Elton on the farm. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Dorrance. She enjoyed square dancing and traveling all across North America with Elton.
Surviving family include her son, Elton A. “Butch” Teppe, Jr. (Bethany) of Wichita, Kansas; daughters, Betty Driscoll of Russell, Kansas and Ann Dumler of Sidel Louisiana; three grandchildren, Scott Teppe, Annette Driscoll and Chris Zorn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Fred Benton and sister Dorothy Oaks.
Celebration of Winifred’s Life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Burial will follow at the Dorrance City Cemetery in Dorrance, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Mortuary. A Memorial has been established with the Morrison House in Salina.
