Clarence Pete Schneider, 89, of Wilson, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas.
Pete was born August 10, 1926, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Pete and Anna (Herdt) Schneider. He grew up and attended school in Hoisington.
Pete served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, stationed in the Pacific. After the war he returned to the Russell area.
Pete was united in marriage to Mary R. Wolfers in 1972. They made their home in Russell. Mary preceded him in death on November 30, 2013.
Pete worked in construction and as a carpenter in the Russell area for many years. He was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed square dancing with Mary,; winning fishing tournaments; raising chickens, quail and pheasants; and tinkering in his shop where he always had a project going.
Surviving family include his three grandchildren, Tami Fuller (Chad) of David City, Jana Cook (Lonny) of Salina, Kansas, Nebraska and Bobbie Bieker of Kilgore, Texas; step son, Kenneth Bieker of Nickerson, Kansas; brother LeRoy Schneider of Jamestown, Kansas; five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary.
Celebration of Pete’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell where Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Visitation will be from Noon to 8:00 PM Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. A Memorial has been established with the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.
