Arlene Fern Krug, 89, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Arlene was born on April 14, 1927, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Alex G. and Hedwig (Haberer) Krug. She grew up in Russell, attended Russell Schools and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1945. After high school, she moved away to begin her career working in the Art Department at Hallmark in Kansas City. Later she started her lifelong career working as an Airline ticket counter and passenger service attendant for Braniff Airlines out of Kansas City. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to take an airline position for Western Airlines. She worked 27 years for Western Airlines and eventually retired from Delta Airlines in 1991. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and was active in her Las Vegas church council. She was very active with the Deines Cultural Center in Russell and a member of the Russell Historical Society. She enjoyed art, photography, stained glass, oil painting and painting with water colors.
Surviving family include her sister Norma Fink of Russell, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold L. Krug in 1994 and infant brother Leo A. Krug.
A celebration of Arlene's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the small chapel in St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. There will be no viewing and visitation with the family will take place before and after the service. Memorials may be given to the St. John Lutheran Church or the High Plains Humane Society and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
