M. Jane (Snyder) Longoria, of Russell, Kansas, passed away October 25, 2016, at the age of 86.

M. Jane Snyder was born to parents Thelma Sue Maples and Willis Snyder on December 8, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She grew up as an only child.  At the age of five, she moved to Ada, Oklahoma, and at the age of eight to Pampa, Texas, where she graduated from Pampa High School in 1947.  Upon her graduation from high school, Jane and her mother moved back to Ada where Jane attended East Central State University for two years.  During that period she was employed by the Ada Evening News in the advertising and fashion editor departments.  While working for the paper she met her future husband, Joe Longoria, and was, married September 21, 1951.  They had three children, two daughters Linda and Tina, and a son, Stevan.

Jane and Joe moved to Russell, Kansas, in 1963.  Joe became head of the laboratory at the Russell City Hospital while Jane returned to school at Fort Hays State University.  Jane received a B. A. in language/arts and another B. A. in Arts in 1964.  Jane then began teaching various subjects to students ranging from kindergarten through high school ages, for 30 years until her retirement in 1994.  She also taught evening outreach classes for Barton County Community College during that period.  The majority of her teaching took place at Dorrance High School in Dorrance, Kansas.
Jane enjoyed her retirement traveling with her children across the United States and abroad.  Much of her retirement energies were devoted to caring for her husband Joe, who contracted Parkinson’s disease and passed away after a lengthy battle with his increasingly debilitating symptoms on February 27, 2012.

Jane is remembered as a much beloved and admired teacher to her many students to this very day.  She was devoted to their education process and a respected role model and advisor to most.  Her children will always remember her as a loving and generous mother who often sacrificed her own needs to ensure that they were able to camp, fish, and travel to many exciting places every summer in the time they had together.  Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled and she will be sorely missed by her children, friends, and beloved cats, Sue Lynn and Waldo, and her memory cherished.

Jane is survived by her daughters Linda Vandermolen and husband Jim, Tina Olson and husband John, her son Stevan Longoria and wife Margaret, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A private funeral ceremony will be conducted by surviving family members which will include the scattering of Joe’s and Jane’s ashes.   The family thanks you for your condolences and desires no flowers or donations.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of these arrangements.
