Dorothy Mae (Nuss) Funk, 86, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Russell Regional Hospital.
Dorothy was born April 14, 1931 in Milberger, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Esther (Blehm) Nuss. She grew up in Milberger and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1949.
Dorothy met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Leon Funk on January 30, 1949 in Russell. This union was blessed with three children; Rodney, Terry and Kimberly. They made their home in Russell. Leon preceded her in death on October 17, 2005.
Dorothy was a hair dresser here in Russell for many years. She was the owner and operator of Dorothy’s Beauty Shop in the 1980’s and 90’s. She also was a waitress at many restaurants in Russell including the Holland Hotel, Eaten Time and the O’Brian Café. She also worked at the Mode-O-Day Dress Shop when she was raising her children.
Dorothy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed Bingo, family outings and crocheting.
Surviving family include her two sons, Rodney Funk (Tracy) of Russell, Kansas and Terry Funk (Sharon) of El Dorado, Kansas; daughter, Kimberly Lahmann (Greg) of Manhattan, Kansas; brother, Dean Nuss of Russell, Kansas; sister, Karen Gaines of Bozeman, Montana; eight grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon, sister Marjorie Mighell, great grandson Isaac Erhlich and close friend Dean Voos.
Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at 10:30am, Monday, Nov. 27, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 8:00 pm Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Memorial has been established with the Russell V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary or St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.
