Darrel Eugene Voos, 65 of Russell died Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Darrel was born January 27, 1945 in Russell, Kansas the son of John and Ophelia (Dumler) Voos. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1963.
Darrel served his country in the U.S. Navy for over 16 years. He was a jet engine mechanic and was stationed on aircraft carriers around the world.
Darrel was united in marriage to Cheryl Campbell on April 18, 1964 in Russell. This union was blessed with a son, Darren.
Darrel retired from the military in 1980 and returned to Russell where he worked for Koch Oil as a Pipeline Inspector until 1995. He also was a maintenance man for DSNWK from 1997 to 2007.
Darrel was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. He also belonged to the Russell V.F.W., the Russell American Legion and the Optimist Club in Texas when he was stationed there. He enjoyed fishing, boating, working with wood and spoiling his grandson.
Surviving family include his wife of 46 years, Cheryl of the home; son, Darren Voos and wife Alison of Bunker Hill, Kansas; brother, Dean Voos of Russell, Kansas; and a grandson, Mark. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Twila Wilson.
Celebration of Darrel’s Life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 21, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Cremation has preceded the service. A memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
