Jay C. Hutchison, 80 of Russell died Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Jay was born on February 27, 1931 in Howard, Kansas the son of Ray and Grace (McCarty) Hutchison. He grew up in Howard before his family moved to Russell in 1945. He graduated from Russell High School in 1949.
He was united in marriage to Donna Rae Dumler in 1979. They made their home in Russell.
Jay was the owner and operator of the Jolly J Inc. Oil Company and Hutchison Oil Company. He started this business in the early 1970ís and was involved with the oil industry for many years. When he was younger he was a car salesman in the area.
Jay was formerly a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and transferred his membership to St. John Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the Russell Elks Lodge. He enjoyed attending antique auctions and collecting antiques. Jay loved chatting with his friends at the local restaurants and taking care of his cats.
Surviving family include his wife of 32 years Donna of the home; son, Brad Hutchison and wife Cheryl of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Kathi Fuller and companion Roger of Russell, Kansas; five grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Adam, Kelli and Whitney; and great granddaughter, Grace. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Becky Thouvenelle and step daughter Merceda Ares.
Celebration of Jayís Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 AM to 5 PM on Monday at the mortuary, cremation has preceded the services. A memorial can be made in donorís choice. Contributions and condolence may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
