Alice Ann Graham, 82, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at her home in Russell.
Alice was born on October 9, 1929, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Anna (Kost) Dawson. She grew up in the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School in 1947 and attended Kansas State University after high school. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to James Edward Graham on August 23, 1951 in Russell. From this union they were blessed with three daughters Nancy, Theresa and Susan. Her husband Jim preceded her in death on June 25, 2008. Alice worked for WIBW when they lived in Topeka. When the family moved to Texas, she worked as the editor of the Garland Daily News and also worked as a real estate broker. She was a founding member of the Garland Cultural Society and was a member of two women’s golf associations. After leaving Texas, they lived in New Mexico and Montana, returning to Russell in 1995. She enjoyed spending her free time gardening and playing golf as well as bridge. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving family include daughters Nancy Walker of Russell, Theresa Pike and husband Jim of Powell, Wyoming and Susan Burrow and husband John of Salado, Texas; brother Don Dawson and wife Carol of Russell, Kansas; 7 grandchildren Dustin, Kelci, Erin, Mike, Jaime, Graham and Garrett.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother Harry Dawson.
A Family Gathering to celebrate Alice’s Life will be held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. There will be no graveside service and cremation has preceded the service. Guestbook registration will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on Friday with the family present for the gathering from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the mortuary. A memorial has been established with Hays Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the memorial service arrangements.
