Larry E. Walizer, 79 of Russell died Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Deseret Nursing Care Center in Kensington, Kansas.
Larry was born on May 30, 1933 in Russell, Kansas the son of Lawrence and Leah (Peterson) Walizer. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School with the Class of 1951.
Larry was united in marriage to Colleen K. Hartman on April 24, 1953 in Russell, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons; Ken and Mike. They made their home in Russell.
Larry started out working with his dad at the Cadillac Dealership when he was young. He then started working for the City of Russell. After several years, he then started working for Russell County as a truck driver. He was working for the county when he retired.
Larry was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge of Russell. He loved playing golf, going fishing, teasing his friends and having a good laugh.
Surviving family include his wife of 59 years, Colleen of the home; sons, Ken Walizer (Beth) and Mike Walizer all of Russell, Kansas; two granddaughters, Jennifer Surber and Karen Walizer; and a great grandson, Evan Surber. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Russell City Cemetery. Burial of ashes will follow the graveside service. Friends may sign the book Monday, September 24, 2012 from 9 AM to 5 PM at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. A memorial has been established with the Hays Humane Society.
