Don Russell McWhirt, 49, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, died on Friday, October 5, 2012, at his home.
Don was born on April 9, 1963 in Russell, Kansas, the son of William Gayle and Shirley Ann (Brack) McWhirt. He grew up and attended school in the Russell County area and spent most of his life in Russell and Bunker Hill. He worked for many years as a self employed truck driver until his health forced him to retire. In his spare time, Don enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.
Surviving family include his mother Shirley Ann Yakesch of Duncan, Oklahoma; sister Raelene Heitschmidt and husband Todd of Marion, Kansas and brother David L. McWhirt also of Marion, Kansas; a nephew and 3 nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A graveside memorial service for Don will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Wilson City Cemetery in Wilson, Kansas, with Sister Diane Wagner officiating. Cremation has preceded the service and inurnment of the cremains will follow the graveside services. Memorials may be given to the Don R. McWhirt Memorial Fund and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the memorial service arrangements.
