Whilmetta Marie Horn, 91, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, October 19, 2012, at Vintage Place in Russell, Kansas.
Whilmetta was born on October 7, 1921, on the family farm in southeast rural Russell, Kansas the daughter of Emanuel and Mary Elizabeth (Milberger) Dumler. She grew up in the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Max P. Horn on September 21, 1947 in Russell. From this union, Whilmetta and Max were blessed with their son Bill. Max preceded her in death on April 24, 2001. Prior to marriage Whilmetta worked as a bookkeeper for the Home State Bank in Russell. After getting married she decided to dedicate herself to taking care of her family and being a full time homemaker. She was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church and was very active in the ladies church auxiliary. She was also a longtime member of the V.F.W. Post 6240 ladies auxillary. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing bridge and being a skilled seamstress. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends.
Surviving family include her son Bill Horn and longtime companion June Murray of Brookfield, Illinois and sister Irene Virginia Boxberger of Great Bend, Kansas.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Dale Emanuel Dumler and nephew Don Boxberger
Celebration of Whilmetta’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM Tuesday evening. Contributions may be given to St. John Lutheran Church and sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
