Delvin Dean Hupfer, 69, of Russell, Kansas, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Delvin was born on the family farm near Bunker Hill, Kansas, the son of Vernon Kenneth and Bessie (Baral) Hupfer. He grew up and attended schools in Bunker Hill, Dorrance and Russell. He has lived all of his life in the Russell County area.
Delvin was united in marriage to Roberta Schafer on November 16, 1968 in Russell, Kansas. They made their home in Russell.
Delvin worked for the Kansas Brick & Tile Company for over 18 years doing repair work on railroad cars. He also worked as an auto mechanic and worked in the oil fields for Delmar Mason and Orville Weeks.
Delvin loved to rebuild and repair old vintage tractors his whole life. Roberta and him spent many hours together working on old tractors. He also enjoyed raising birds and spending time at Wilson Lake with family and friends.
Surviving family include his wife of 44 years Roberta of the home; son, Jim Lewis of Emporia, Kansas; three daughters, Connie Hill (Ken) of Quinter, Kansas, Theresa Dix (Steve) of Hays, Kansas and Alleda Hickel of Russell, Kansas; sister, Carolyn Karst of Russell, Kansas; grandchildren Timothy Ehrlich, Brianna Hickel, Blaine Hickel and Sara Lewis; and great grandchildren, Kyle Hatch, Mercedes Congrove, David Boese and Travis Wiley.
Delvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett & Dickie Hupfer; sisters, Vickey Hupfer and Linda Bodecker; and granddaughter, Angela Wiley.
Celebration of Delvin’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M.. A Memorial has been established as the Delvin Hupfer Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these funeral arrangements.
