Enoch Ivan Holt, 93 of Russell died on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Main Street Manor in Russell.
Ivan was born March 20, 1916 in Leon, Kansas, the son of David Ralph and Anna May (Piper) Holt. Ivan grew up in Leon and graduated from Leon High School.
Ivan was united in marriage to Olive Loretta Atkisson on July 17, 1935 in El Dorado. On their wedding day they moved to Russell. This union was blessed with three children, Barbra, LeRoy and Sandra. This union of 71 years ended with the passing of Loretta on May 1, 2007
Ivan worked for Skelly for over 18 years in the Russell area as a superintendent. In 1952 Ivan became the owner and operator of the Ivan Holt Well Service.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. He was a charter member of the Russell Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Russell Elks Lodge. He also belonged to the Salina Isis Shrine. Ivan was an avid hunter and trap shooter. He belonged to the American and Kansas Trapshooters Associations.
Surviving family include two daughters, Barbra Simpson and husband Jay of Manhattan Beach, California and Sandra Krug and husband Don of Russell, KS; son, Ivan LeRoy Holt and wife Barbara of Russell, Kansas; brother Don Holt of Topeka; sister Nellie Broyles of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Florian, Lerand, Chester, Danny, Leo and Roy; and three sister, Rosa, Doris and Fleta Jo.
A celebration of Ivan's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 15, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Interment will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who are in charge of the arrangements.
