Robert “Bob” W. Sellens, 64, of Russell died on Thursday morning, September 24, 2009 at the Hays Medical Center. He was born on February 17, 1945 in Russell, Kansas the son of Donald and Esther (Peterson) Sellens.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He returned to Russell where he farmed in the Russell and Bunker Hill area. Later he became the owner and operator of Sellens Auto Repair. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the Bunker Hill Lions Club. He loved tinkering and riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles and collecting Cushman Scooters. He also enjoyed restoring old trucks, drag racing, speed boats, tractor pulls, hunting and spending time outdoors.
Surviving family include his sons Kenneth William Sellens and wife Kirsten of Lawton, Oklahoma, Craig Robert Sellens and wife Michelle of Wichita and Robert William Sellens II and wife Whitney of Russell; daughters Angela Dawn Hagen of Topeka and Cherina Dawn Sellens of Shawnee, Kansas; sisters Donita Seirer of Russell and Billie Jo Breit of Pfeifer, Kansas; companion Peggy Chrisler of Russell and 6 grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Earl Haggard officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Bunker Hill Lions Club and sent in care of the mortuary.
