Carol M. (Cochrun) Elmquist, 94 of Lindsborg, Kansas, and formerly of Luray, Kansas, passed away, Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the Bethany Village in Lindsborg.

Carol was born February 7, 1932, in Luray, Kansas. She was one of five children born to Edwin and Edna (Hubbard) Cochrun. She grew up in Luray and graduated from Luray High School in the Class of 1950.

Carol was united in marriage to William N. Berryhill on April 10, 1951. This union was blessed with four children; Brenda, Donna, Elizabeth and James. William and Carol divorced. Later she was united in marriage to Harold L. “Prince” Elmquist on August 10, 1974. With this union, Carol gained three stepchildren; Larry, Gary and Lauren. Harold preceded her in death in 2000.

Carol worked for the Russell Daily News as a proof reader and worked with Carriers in the circulation department. Later she worked as a kitchen aid for Bethany Village in Lindsborg. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Luray Senior Center. She enjoyed creating rugs for grandchildren and being a Weaver.

Carol’s surviving family include her daughters, Brenda Mullender (Vanan) of Waldo, Kansas, Donna Cole of Lindsborg, Kansas and Elizabeth Whitson (Maurice) of Smithton, Missouri; stepchildren, Gary Elmquist (Ann) of Osawatomie, Kansas, and Lauren Lofgren (Ron) of Wayne, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, son, James Berryhill; stepson Larry Elmquist, sister, Audrey Schneider; and brothers Larry Cochran, Dall Cochrun and O.D. Cochrun.

Celebration of Carol’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 24, 2026, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. A family burial of ashes will follow after the chapel service. After the burial of ashes Family and friends are invited to join the family for lunch at the Luray Community Center. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
