David LeRoy Homewood

David LeRoy Homewood, 76, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

David was born on March 21, 1950, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Earnest C. and LaVina B. (Bender) Homewood. He grew up in Luray, Kansas, and graduated from Luray High School in the class of 1968, and lived in the Russell County area most of his life. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to LaVeta June Paget on December 21, 1968, in Waldo, Kansas. From this union David and June were blessed with two children, Darin and Kelli. David also worked as a heavy equipment operator for Grant Township for many years, retired, then was a school bus driver and again retired.

Surviving family include his wife June of the home, son Darin Homewood and fiancé Carolyn of Gorham, Kansas and daughter Kelli Weatherley and husband Scott of Solomon, Kansas; brother Rodney Homewood and wife Chanda of Luray, Kansas and sister Lois Boyd of Russell, Kansas; two grandchildren Darian Reynoso and husband David and Dakotah Homewood and fiancé Heather Glenn; four great grandchildren Haiden, Daylin, Alainey and Loralye.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Vera Karst and brother Benton Homewood.

Cremation has been selected by the family. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date at Grand Center Cemetery in Rural Waldo, Kansas. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
