Dean R. Popp 95, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away, Sunday Oct. 19,2025 at Western Hills Health Care Center in Lakewood, Co. Dean was born March 18, 1930, in Hoisington, Kansas. He was the only child of Amelia (Miller) Popp and Paul Popp. His early life he lived on the family farm in Barton County, Ks and then later moved with his parents to Russell, KS. Dean graduated from Russell High School in 1948.
Shortly after graduation Dean was drafted by the U.S. Army for the Korean war. Dean spent just under 2 years serving in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Seargent in the Korean war. Dean had a strong devotion to supporting all those that served in the military and was a lifelong member of the VFW.
Dean was united in marriage on December 27, 1955, to Betty (Holl) Popp in Russell, KS. They were blessed with two children Amy (Popp) Dixon of Frederick, Co. and Doug Popp of Lakewood, Co.
Even though Dean’s main residence was Lakewood, CO where he raised his family and worked as an elementary school principal for Jefferson County Schools until he retired, his passion was farming and visiting family and friends in Kansas. He spent as much time as he could traveling between Colorado and Kansas to help family and friends back in Kansas with their farms.
Surviving family includes his wife Betty (Holl) Popp of the family home in Lakewood, Co., daughter Amy and son Doug. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A cremation service was selected by the family. A graveside service to celebrate Dean’s life will be held at 10:30 on Friday. June 12, 2026, at the Russell City Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
