Evelyn Kay Burns

Evelyn Kay Burns,81, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Lincoln Park Manor in Lincoln, Kansas.

Evelyn was born on November 21, 1943, in rural Natoma, Kansas, on the family farm, the daughter of Verle Dean and LaVon (Dougherty) Naylor. She grew up in Natoma and graduated from Lucas High School in the class of 1962. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Steve Garrett Burns on June 06, 1969, in Russell, Kansas. From this union they were blessed with two sons Daniel and Steven. Evelyn worked as a cook at various restaurants, most notably working for Granda Max in Salina, Kansas, for several years. She enjoyed knitting, puzzle games, cooking and spending time with her family.

Surviving family include her husband of 56 years, Steve G. Burns of Russell, Kansas, son Steven Burns of Salina, Kansas, five grandchildren Erika Wegele, Zack Burns, Dakota Burns, Cheyenne Burns and Brittany Burns and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Daniel R. Burns, grandson Steven K. Burns, Jr., brother Gerald Naylor and three sisters Susan Mayberry, Ruth Ryan and Mildred Bland.

Cremation has been selected by the family. A private memorial celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at a later date. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements.
