Gary D. McEvoy

Gary Dwane McEvoy, 84, of Olathe, Kansas and former Russell, Kansas, resident, died on Saturday,

December 06, 2025, at the Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Overland Park, Kansas.

Gary was born on August 02, 1941, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Dr. Francis Albert and Ida Alice (Mhoon) McEvoy. He grew up in Wilson, Kansas and graduated from Wilson High School. Gary met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Marilyn Jane Krug on October 8, 1961, in Russell. This union was blessed with three daughters: Lisa, Michele and Tammy. They also were foster parents to Brenda and Laurie. They made their home in Russell before moving to Salina. Then in 1972, they returned to Russell. Gary and his wife Marilyn owned and operated a furniture store for several years before going to work for Motorola for about 15 years. His last 15 years before retirement he worked as store manager at Triple, Inc. Convenience Store in Russell, Kansas. He enjoyed being outdoors, being an active camper, fisherman, spending time on his boat and riding ATV’s. He also enjoyed playing pool and of course spending time with his family.

Surviving family includes three daughters, Lisa R. McEvoy and Michele J. McEvoy both of Olathe, Kansas, and Tammy S. Weigel (Joe) of Russell, Kansas; foster daughters, Brenda Smith of Hays, Kansas and Laurie Smith of Salina, Kansas; one brother Dr. Francis Earl McEvoy of Springdale, Arkansas; four grandchildren, five foster grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 13 foster great grandchildren. Also, grand dogs Princess Jane ( Michele’s and Gary’s dog) and Grayson ( Lisa’s dog )

He preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn on March 06, 2017.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 11, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be given to St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
