Judy Lynn Novotny

Judy Lynn Novotny, 74, of Russell, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Judy was born on November 15, 1951, in Goodland, Kansas, to John and Erma (Anderson) Hoss. She was raised in Russell and graduated from Russell High School. On July 25, 1981, she was united in marriage to Jerry Novotny in Holyrood, Kansas. Together, they shared many years of marriage and memories.

Judy worked for many years at Cashco as a parts assembly line painter. She was also a longtime and devoted member of Otterbein Church in Russell, where she enjoyed volunteering and being part of the church community.

Judy had many interests and passions throughout her life. She enjoyed photography, playing her guitar, collecting coins, and reading. She especially treasured time spent with her family and the simple joys of being surrounded by those she loved. Her dog, Governor, was a special companion and brought her much happiness. Judy will be remembered for her kind heart, her many interests, her love of family, and the special place she held in the lives of those who knew her.

Judy is survived by her niece, Terri Long and her husband, Heath, of Russell, Kansas; and her nephews, Shawn Hoss and his wife, Andrea, of Hays, Kansas, and Cody Hoss and his wife, Amy, of Russell, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Erma Hoss; her husband, Jerry Novotny; and her brothers, Terry Hoss and Roger Hoss.

Cremation was selected by the family. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, October 09, 2026, at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Holyrood, Kansas. Family will greet guests on the day of the service. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the graveside services.
