Michael Dee Waymaster, 75 of Bunker Hill, Kansas, died on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Born August 19, 1950 in Russell, KS. He was the second child born to Leroy and Gloria (Luerman) Waymaster of Bunker Hill.
His younger years were spent working on the family farm, showing animals in 4-H and playing basketball with his brothers. Mike graduated from Luray High School, class of 1969. After high school he attended a Vo-Tech school and learned to weld and then worked in Hesston, KS. However, the farm was calling him back. He and brother Lance became partners and just recently retired. He decided to take up auctioneering while farming. As he got more jobs he started his own business and enlisted two of his brothers, Lance & Chuck to help him. After closing the business he still volunteered his talent to several service organizations when needed.
His passions were animals, cars & of course his family. For a while he raised exotic animals and then changed to peacocks, guineas, and chickens. He was especially fond of Chrysler vehicles and had quite a collection. A number of them were showcased at the Garage Automotive Museum in Salina, KS.
He was known for his hugs and it was a joy watching the smiles they brought to others.
On May 25, 2003 he married Diane (Rogg). He loved his blended family dearly and would do anything for them. His mother said he was a “peacemaker” and often was. Mike was an active member of the Russell VFW auxiliary, Russell Masonic Lodge, Russell Shrine, Bunker Hill Lions Club and Bunker Hill Historical Society.
