Roger Keith Nichols

Roger Keith Nichols, 80, of Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, January 05, 2026, at the Russell Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Roger was born on August 08, 1945, in Russell, Kansas, the son of William “Bill” and Irene (Deines) Nichols. He grew up in the Russell area and lived there his entire life. He worked as a Janitor for Pohlman Hardware and also worked at DSNWK both in Russell. He attended Bible Baptist Church in Russell. He loved watching oil rigs run and enjoyed tinkering with toy trains and exploring large locomotives. Most of all he enjoyed interacting with his family and close friends.

Roger enjoyed services from Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas (DSNWK) for 36 years.

Surviving family includes his cousin Diana Boxberger (Boatright) and husband Ronnie of Russell, Kansas; Delores (Boatright) Wegele and husband Allen of Concho, AZ

His group home friends James Hemphill (cousin), Collette Whitman, Rosemary Dancer, Caid Breon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepbrother Clifford Deines.

A gathering service to celebrate Roger’s life will be held from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 5 P.M. to 6 P.M. Wednesday evening. In lieu of flower the family requests memorials be given to DSNWK and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the services.
