Ruth Jean Hutchison, 94, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, October 01, 2026, at the Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.
Ruth was born October 11, 1931, in Morland, Kansas, the daughter of Francis Ray and Blanche Estelle (Shaffer) Caprez. She grew up in Waldo, Kansas and graduated from Waldo High School. She was united in marriage to Jack Leroy Hutchison on July 27, 1952, at the Waldo United Methodist Church in Waldo, Kansas. From this union Ruth and Jack were blessed with four children Judith, Dallas, Jill and John. When she was younger, she worked as a switchboard operator for the phone company. For many years she worked for Southwind Bank in Russell as a bank teller. She was a member of the Eastern Star and V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzels.
Surviving family include her daughters Judith Tomei (Michael) of Lawrence, Kansas and Jill Kerr (Richard) of Russell, Kansas and son John Hutchison (Tamara) of Quinter, Kansas; brother Conrad Caprez (Connie) of Placentia, California; grandchildren Nicholas, Patrick & Christopher Tomei, Jeremiah, Jade and Jarin Kerr and Adam and Heath Hutchison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack on June 22, 1989, daughter Dallas Hutchison, brother Francis Caprez, sisters Veda Wanasek, Lottie Boyd and Darlene Taylor.
A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Grand Center Cemetery north of Waldo, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday evening. Memorials may be given to the Order of the Eastern Star and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
