Steven Roy Vonfeldt, 73, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026 at the Russell Regional Hospital.
Steven was born August 4, 1953 in Russell, Kansas. He was the son of Roy P. and Velma (Stang) Vonfeldt. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1971.
Steven was united in marriage to Mary Baral on March 22, 1991, in Russell, where they made their home for over 35 years.
Steven was a pumper most of his life. He started out working with his father for several years before he started pumping for his self. He also enjoyed working at Wal-Mart for over 20 years, mainly in the Service Auto Department. He was a member of the St. Mary, Queen of Angles Catholic Church. He enjoyed attending car shows and family gatherings. He loved taking his grandkids to Wal-Mart.
Steven’s surviving family include his wife of 35 years, Mary of the home; daughter, Erin Nilhas (Blake) of Shawnee, Kansas; sisters, Vickie Munday of Russell, Kansas and Diane Lindenmuth (Darwin) of Woodward, Oklahoma; step children Tina Lamar, Derrick Pfannenstiel (Amy), Tony Pfannenstiel (Manue), Trent Pfannenstiel (Marissa), Brent Pfannenstiel (Jinny), George Moresco (Amy); many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Darci Vonfeldt brother, Alan Vonfeldt; and sister, Karen Vonfeldt and stepdaughter Sarah Hearld.
Celebration of the catholic mass for Steven’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 18, 2026, at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the mortuary. A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday night at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Russell County Food Pantry and can be sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
