Wanda Kay Hull

Wanda Kay (Ward) Hull, age 90, of Omaha, NE died Friday, July24th at her home in Omaha, Nebraska.

Wanda was born June 15th, 1936, in Russell, Kansas. She attended the first semester of First grade in Paradise, KS. Her parents moved to a farm outside of Waldo, KS where she attended school through her High School Graduation in 1954, and married her High School sweetheart, Donald Wayne Hull, on August 7th, 1955. Wanda and Don were married at the Waldo Kansas United Methodist Church and remained married until Don died in January 2021, with over 65 years together.

Wanda received a Two Year Teaching Certificate from Fort Hayes State in Hayes, KS. She taught one year at Emerson, an all Grades Country School in Russell County, KS. She moved to Columbus, NE and taught in Platte Center, NE for two years while completing her Teaching degree at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She then taught in Columbus, NE for 20 years at Emerson Elementary. She was hired at Columbus Middle School to complete the last eleven years of her teaching career. Teaching for a total of 34 years, gladly given by her to the youth of Nebraska and Kansas. In reviewing paperwork that was Wanda’s she left a personal note: “I am a teacher by choice, not chance. I enjoy almost everything about teaching, especially the students. I consider my greatest strength is being able to find strengths in the people I work with, adults or the young.”

Wanda was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She served as a youth leader for 4 years in the United Methodist Church in Columbus, Nebraska. She was also a lifelong member of the Columbus Education Association, the Nebraska Education Association and the National Education Association.

Her many hobbies included traveling, reading, card clubs, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, antique hunting and taking excellent care of her family and friends. After retiring from teaching in Columbus, Wanda and Don moved to the Prairie Creek area outside of Rogers, Arkansas, where they traveled and socialized with their many friends for over 20 years. They relocated at the end of 2018 to Omaha, NE to be near family.

Wanda is survived by: her daughter, Karla Dawn (Hull) Faucher of Omaha, Nebraska and Terri Kay (Hull) Smith of Mesquite, Texas; four granddaughters, Lisa Marie, Jennifer Leigh, Christina Grace and Amanda Kay; and five great grandsons, Brandon Damien, David Zane, Seth Alexander, Zachary Thomas and Corbin Kenneth; her sister Karen (Ward) Papp and her brother Kirk Ward.

Wanda is preceded in death by: her parents Agnes (Bear) Ward and Kenneth Ward, her son Douglas Wayne Hull, her sisters Beverly (Ward) Spencer, Kenna (Ward) Caprez and her brother Kenton Ward.

A memorial service to celebrate Wanda’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Waldo United Methodist Church in Waldo, Kansas. The family will greet gurests the day of the service. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
