Wilma Jean Meier, 89, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Wilma was born on July 25, 1936, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Frieda (Scheuerman) Tittel. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1954. She met, and fell in love with Dean E. Meier, and they were united in marriage on June 10, 1956, in Russell. She worked as a secretary for different businesses in Russell but was very proud to have been the secretary to former Senator Bob Dole, when he worked as the Russell County Attorney. She was most proud to work as a wife, mother and homemaker for her husband and two children Terry and Tammy. She was a longtime member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. She enjoyed being outdoors and had a passion for mowing the lawn. She also enjoyed traveling the country and bowling with her husband and has many trophies celebrating her skills as a bowler. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family and traveling around the state watching her kids, grandkids and great grandkids school and sporting events.
Surviving family includes her husband Dean of the home, son Terry Meier and wife Lori of Russell, Kansas; grandchildren Nicole Parmer (Clinton), Nathan Meier (Emma) and Nolan Meier; great grandchildren Michael Parmer, Alea Parmer, William Meier and Jack Meier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Tammy Gillett, brothers Vernon and Marvin Tittel, grandson Nicholas Meier and great granddaughter Lily Parmer.
A celebration of Wilma’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, with burial following at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Family will greet guests on the day of the service at the church from 9:30 A.M. to service time. Memorials may be given to the Russell Senior Center and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
