Darlene Francis Woelk, 90, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 21, 2023, at The Pratt Health and Rehab in Pratt, Kansas. Darlene was born on May 12, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Newton and Eva Gretchen (Hogue) Davis.  She was raised by her mother and would recall her adventures in her mom’s restaurant growing up in Beloit, Kansas.  She graduated from Beloit High School and began working the summer of 1951, for Woelk Implement in Russell, Kansas.  She met, the love of her life and was united in marriage to Donald F. Woelk

Helen Irene Zimmerman, age 102, passed away on Thursday, July 20,2023, in Lakewood, Colorado, She was born in Russell, Kansas May 4,1921 to Adam Fose and Kathrine Schneider.  She worked as clerk and bookkeeper for several businesses in Russell and was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. Helen married Dean Zimmerman June 6, 1939. They were married for 68 years. Dean and Helen ran the Sky-Vu Drive In theater in Russell for 32 years. She was preceded in death by husband, Dean, daughter, Gwen Writer and son, Fred Zimmerman. Helen is survived by daughter, Mitzi (Leo) Stambaugh of Denver, four grandchildren

Roy Don Wright, 81, of Luray, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas. Don was born August 1, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri. The son of Henry and Edith (Pasmore) Wright.  He grew up in Kansas City until the age of five when his family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. After five years they returned to the Kansas City area. Dean L. Stricker, 87, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend, Kansas. Dean was born July 4, 1936 in Russell County, Kansas.  The son of Gottfried and Mollie (Niedenthal) Stricker.  He grew up south of Russell in the Milberger area.  He graduated from Russell High School and attended two years at Ft. Hays State University. Robert Allen Grizzle, 65, of Eudora, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas. Robert was born November 2, 1957, in Enid, Oklahoma.  He was the son of Leon and Ernestine (Butler) Grizzle.  The Grizzle family moved to Russell, Kansas when Robert was young.  He grew up and attended schools in Russell. Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy Sauders on March 5, 1994, in Clearview City, Kansas. Robert was blessed with five children: Kevin, Carrie, Jamie, Rachel and Alan. Robert was an independent Drywaller.  He worked in construction most of his life. 

Hilda (Bender) Dietz, 96, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell. Hilda was born at the family home on September 20, 1926, in Russell County. She was the daughter of David and Mary (Dietz) Bender. She grew up in the Bender Hill area and attended country schools until high school. She graduated from Russell High School in 1944. She then attended two years at Ft. Teresa Jean Craven, 74, of Larned, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at Diversicare of Hutchinson, Kansas. Teresa was born July 17, 1948 in Russell, Kansas. She was the eldest of three children born to Arthur “Red” and Frances (Brown) Craven. Teresa graduated from Russell High School in 1966. After completing her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1974 from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas, Teresa began her career as a Registered Nurse at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays, Kansas. Joyce Irene (Anschutz) Cobb-Barker, 87, of McPherson, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Joyce was born March 19, 1936 in Hays, Kansas. She was the daughter of Louis and Vivian (Thielen) Anschutz. She grew up in Dorrance, Kansas and graduated from Dorrance High School in the Class of 54. Donald Lee Kilian, Jr., 67, of Independence, Missouri, moved to Heaven on Friday, April 7, 2023. Donald was known to friends and family as “Don” or “Donnie”.  He was born in Russell, Kansas on March 29, 1956.  He was the fourth of six children born to Donald Lee and Mary Ann Kilian. Don graduated from Russell High School in 1974, where he enjoyed band, football and tennis.  He attended Salina Vo-Tech in Salina, Kansas, and upon graduation went to work for Ryder for 17 years.  He then went on to retire from Cummins after 27 years of service.
