Barbara J. Flegler

Barbara Jean Flegler, 85, of Billings, Montana, and longtime Russell, Kansas, resident, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the Hanson Cottage at St. John’s United in Billings, Montana.

Barbara was born on July 05, 1935, in El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Clyde and Treva Copeland.  At a young age Barbara and her family moved to Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1953.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Vernon “Dean” Flegler on August 10, 1958, in Russell.  From this union, Barbara and Dean were blessed with 3 children Rick, Connie and Alan.  Barbara worked as a full time homemaker, taking care of her growing family.  She was a very spiritual and active person and enjoyed teaching bible study and Sunday school, visiting with people shut in their homes and enjoying coffee time with her friends.  She also enjoyed reading, yard work and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Surviving family include her son Alan Flegler and longtime companion Darnell of Billings, Montana; sisters Glenna Thompson of Hutchinson, Kansas and Karen Steinle of Springfield, Missouri; 2 grandkids Fanisha (Flegler) Esfeld and Jon Golbek and 5 great grandkids Easton, Jett & Finley Esfeld, Jonathan and Lily Golbek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean on January 27, 2014, son Rick Flegler, daughter Connie Golbek, grandson Clint Flegler and brother Jim Copeland.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Jim Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to the New Life Center of Hays, Kansas, and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
