Betty continued to work managing apartment complexes and in January 1988 married Lt. In 2008, Betty moved to the Chicago area to Plymouth Place to be with her daughter Dr. Rebecca Lake. Together, they enjoyed traveling, vacation cruises, various entertainment venues around the Chicago area, and watching the Cubs.

Surviving family includes her daughters Dr. Rebecca S. Lake of Westchester, Illinois; Frankie Bland and family of Luray, Kansas; and Dorothy Lake of Mesa, Arizona.
