Cathern L. Trapp

Cathern Lee (Thouvenelle) Trapp, 82, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, May 07, 2021, at her family’s home in the Flint Hills outside of Manhattan KS

Cathern was born on September 19, 1938, in Lucas, Kansas, the daughter of George Gerald (G.G) and Bertie Orene (Pitchford) Thouvenelle.  As a young girl she grew up in Lucas but moved to Russell, Kansas, in 1954, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1956.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Herman R. Trapp on July 31, 1959, in Russell.  From this union they were blessed with two sons Charley and Scott.  Herman preceded her in death on February 13, 1997.  She owned and operated Cathy’s Beauty Nook from 1965 to  1994.  After closing her beauty shop she went to work at the Russell County Landfill for many years until she retired.  Cathern found love a second time and was a faithful companion to Don Kilian for many years before he passed away on May 21, 2020.  She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.  She was also a member of T.O.P.S., B.P.W. and helped with the Shrine.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, lawn work, watching Kansas State University sports and being a homemaker.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons Charley H. Trapp and wife Angela of Junction City, Kansas and Scott A. Trapp and wife Cami Kesinger of Leavenworth, Kansas; sister Georgia Ann Thorson and husband Charlie of Surprise, Arizona; grandkids Morgan Trapp-Manhattan  KS, Lindy (Trapp) Swart-Westmoreland, Kansas and Emma (Trapp) Leuthold-rural Manhattan Kansas, Kynser Wahwahsuck-Lawrence, Kansas, and Kruz Wahwahsuck-Leavenworth, Kansas  and great grandkids Bryden Trapp, Kimber Swart, Casen Swart, and Madeline Leuthold.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as previously mentioned her husband Herman and brothers Jack, Norm and David Thouvenelle.

A celebration of Cathern’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary and cremation has been selected per Cathern’s wishes.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday evening.  Memorials may be given to the Russell Regional Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
