Christina L. Bourland

Christina Linn Bourland, 52, of Russell, Kansas, died of COVID-19 on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at her home in Russell.

Christina was born January 18, 1968 in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado to Oscar and Bonnie (Baehler) Fuentez. She was raised in Sharon Springs, Kansas, along with her younger siblings Regina and Joe. She graduated from Wallace County High School in 1986. Chris earned an Associate in Arts degree from Dodge City Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree from Wichita State University in 1991. She furthered her education earning a Master of Science in Communication Disorders/Speech Language Pathology from Fort Hays State University in 1995. Christina was a proud member and former President of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Sorority, Certified Member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She loved Dallas Cowboys football, Villanova Basketball and always made time for coffee with her many good friends.

Christina impacted countless children’s lives for the better as in her practice as a speech pathologist, first for USD 407 for nineteen years and then for children ages birth to three at Kid-Link/DSNWK for her last six years. There are hundreds if not thousands of children who are able to speak, eat, express their emotions and live fuller lives because of Christina’s decades of love and work with children.

Christina’s legacy lives on through these children and through her own daughters Danielle Bourland and Christianna Pruden as well as her grandson, Owen Watts. She also leaves behind her stepdaughter Tiffany Boardman-Bourland, her sister Regina Gronewoller and husband John, her brother Joseph Fuentez and wife Amanda, and nieces and nephews Eryn, John Michael, and Jarod Gronewoller and Jacob and Abi Fuentez. She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Bonnie Fuentez.

Cremation has been selected by the family. There will be no public service at this time but will be planned for the future. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
