Donald L. Augustine

Donald Lee Augustine, 59, of Russell, Kansas passed suddenly Friday, January 13, 2023 in Great Bend, Kansas.

Don was born March 1, 1963 in Morris, Illinois.  He was one of four children born to Wayne J. and Clarissa Ann (Leiker) Augustine.  The family moved to Hays, Kansas when Don was young.  He grew up in Hays and was a 1981 graduate of Hays High School.  He did attend Barton County Community College and Ft. Hays State University.

Don was united in marriage to Kimberly Jo Boxberger on November 21, 1987 in Russell.  This union was blessed with a son, Nick.  They made their home in Hays before moving to Russell.

Don was the Operations Manager for Midwest Energy.  He has worked with Midwest Energy for 17 years.  In 1990, he started working for the City of Russell as a Lineman/Journeyman.  He was the Electrical Superintendent when in 1998 he became the Utility Director for the City of Russell.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.  He served on the Executive Board of Directors for the Kansas Municipal Utilities, Inc. (KMU).  He was a member of the Russell Masonic Lodge #177 and a member of Isis Shrine.  He enjoyed drag racing, playing poker with his friends and watching Kansas University.  His world revolved around his grandson Bentley.

Don’s surviving family include his wife of 35 years, Kimberly of the home; son, Nick Augustine (Amanda) of Olathe, Kansas; brother, Darin Augustine (Jill) of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Dianne Lindeman (Dean) of Gilbert, Arizona; grandson, Bentley Augustine; and a granddaughter on the way.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith Alan Augustine; and twin granddaughters, Presley and Hadley.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.  Cremation has taken place.  Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
