Elzina E. Scott

Elzina E. Scott, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell.

Elzina was born November 29, 1931 in Russell County.  She was the daughter of John and Lydia (Lohmann) Maier.  She grew up and attended Cromwell Country School south of Gorham, Kansas. She was baptized and confirmed at Bender Hill Lutheran Church in rural Russell. Elzina had a strong Lutheran faith and was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma and later the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.

Elzina later moved to Russell where she worked as a Nurses Aid at the Russell Regional Hospital for over 30 years and was honored as Employee of the Year in 1983. She loved and raised her three children in Russell early on, and then remarried and moved her family to a farm north of Paradise where she was a hard-working farm wife. She later left the farm and moved close to her daughter for awhile and then retired and moved to Russell where she could be around her many friends as she got older.

Elzina always loved polka dancing and hosted several of her own birthday dances. She was very active, and she enjoyed traveling, watching sports, knitting, walking and working outdoors. Elzina was always ready to help where she could. She did volunteer work for KOOD TV, the Red Cross, meals on wheels, the Trinity Thrift Store, and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Elzina’s surviving family include her daughter, Deborah Maupin (Tom) of Paradise, Kansas; sons, Phillip Bealby (Junette) of Marion, Kansas and Bradley Bealby (Linda) of Woodland Park, Colorado; brother, Sidney Maier of Minneola, Kansas; seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Elzina was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sisters and three brothers. A memorial service to celebrate Elzina’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peele Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation for Elzina will be held Friday, September 16, 2022, from 9 AM to 7 PM, at the mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 5 PM to 7 PM, Friday evening.  A private burial of her ashes will take place at a later time.  Memorials have been established with the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary or the Trinity Thrift Store.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, and is in charge of these arrangements.
