Esther I. Rassette

Esther Irene Rassette, 93, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Esther was born on May 27, 1928, in rural Russell County, Kansas, the daughter of Alexander (A.D.) and Mollie (Weimaster) Schultz.  She was raised in the Lutheran Church.  She grew up in the Russell and Hoisington, Kansas, area and graduated from Hoisington High School.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to William J. “Bill” Rassette on October 17, 1948, in Russell.  From this union Esther and Bill were blessed with a son Eugene.  The family moved to Georgetown, Colorado in the early 1960’S after purchasing the Herringbone Cabin Motel and restaurant.  In 1978 they retired and returned to Russell, Kansas.  She worked hard as a fulltime wife and homemaker.  She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, playing pitch, watching sports on television and traveling across America and over seas.

She is survived by her daughter in-law Maggie Rassette of Abilene, Kansas and 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren: Matt (Rene) Rassette – children Nina and Elijah of Minneapolis, MN, Abigail (Neil) Endicott and daughter Georgia of Poole, England, Katherine (Jay) Pankratz and children Maggie, Sophie and Penelope of Portland, OR, Emily (Chris) Campbell and children Sydney and Aulay.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill on October 17, 2006, son Eugene Rassette September 04, 2002, brothers Willie Schultz, Julius Schultz and sister Gladys (Schultz) Shadley. A graveside celebration of Esther’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 02, 2021, at the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Thursday, July 01, 2021, at the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
