Frances A. Nuss

Frances Alberta (Holl) Nuss, 97 of Russell, Kansas, died on October 3, 2020 at the Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.

Frances was born on the family farm on February 6, 1923, in Russell County, Kansas, the daughter of Levi and Caroline (Dumler) Holl.  She grew up on the family farm and attended Holl School located across from the Holl homestead.  She graduated from Russell High School in 1941.  Following graduation she attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas.  She worked in clerical jobs over the years.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Leland Martin Nuss on October 15, 1953, in Russell, Kansas.  She continued working outside the home for a few years before becoming a full time farm wife.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and many crafts.  Frances and Leland were blessed with two children, a son Monte and a daughter Sandra.  They were members of the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas.  She was an avid Kansas University Basketball fan and loved attending her granddaughters sporting events. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her son Monte Nuss and wife Mary of Russell, Kansas; daughter Sandra Doherty of Hutchinson, Kansas; 5 grandchildren David (Susan) and Brian Doherty, Erica (Ryan) Feil and Kaci and Whitney Nuss.  Five great grandchildren Bryson and Lawson Feil and Tayler, Peyton and Andy Doherty. One sister Betty (Dean) Popp of Lakewood, Co.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, her parents, brother Ottomer Holl and great granddaughter Carly Doherty.

A graveside service to celebrate Frances’ life will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, October 09, 2020, at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Thursday, October 08, 2020 at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to the Main Street Manor Nursing Center and can be sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
