Jeannine C. Truan

Jeannine C. Truan, 84, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Wilson Nursing Center in Wilson, Kansas.

Jeannine was born December 26, 1936 in Hays, Kansas.  She was one of five children born to Gilbert and Elizabeth (Kippes) Truan.  She grew up a short time in Hays before her family moved to the family farm and she attended Hope Valley schools.  She graduated from Gorham High School in the Class of 1954.  Then after high school she moved to Russell.

Jeannine started out working for Kessler Cleaners for six years before helping take care of patients at the Russell Hospital and in home patients.  She worked as a waitress at the Tower Restaurant before working over 12 years at Martha’s Cafe and working for Red’s Chicken House.  In 1982, she started working for Klema’s in the Bakery and Deli, retiring in 2000.

Jeannine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Russell and was an active member of the St. Mary’s Guild.  She enjoyed collecting Salt & Pepper Shakers, cheering on her Kansas City Royals, listening to country music and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Jeannine’s surviving family includes her sisters, Janice Stoppel (Melvin) of Russell, Kansas and Norma Savage of Russell, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Delbert Truan and Raymond Truan, and sister Betty Wallace.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  Memorials have been established with St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
