Marlyn D. Brown

Marlyn D. “Dean” Brown, 88, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Dean was born April 23, 1932 in Hays, Kansas.  He grew up in Hays and later in Waldo, Kansas.  He graduated from Waldo High School.

Dean served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.  He was a Company Radioman.  After his tour he transferred to the Army Reserves and returned to Russell.

Dean was united in marriage to Barbara Wagner on November 18, 1956 in Russell.  This union was blessed with two children; Greg and Marietta.  They made their home in Russell.

Dean worked for the City of Russell many years and retired as the Superintendant of the City Power Plant.  He retired in 2002.  Earlier in life he worked in the oil fields and for Shannon Appliances.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240.  He enjoyed fishing, watching sporting events, tinkering and fixing things for family and friends.  He always had a smile and never knew a stranger.

Dean’s surviving family include his wife of 63 years, Barbara of the home; son, Greg Brown (Michelle) of Fairview, Oklahoma; daughter, Marietta Watkins (Tony) of Cleo Springs, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Stephanie Schatz (Mike) and Trevor Watkins; and great grandchild, Max Dean Schatz.

Celebration of Dean’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 2, 2020 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  The family has chosen cremation and no visitation will be held.  A Memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
