Mary Jane Bender, 65, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at the Russell Regional Hospital Emergency Room in Russell, Kansas

Jane was born on December 25, 1955, in Gorham, Kansas, the daughter of Herbert and Lydia (Dreiling) Hammersmith.  She grew up in Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School and lived in the Gorham and Russell area most all her life.  She was married to Jerry Suchy and from this union they were blessed with 3 sons Jerry, Jason and Jamie.  Later she and Jerry were divorced but she was blessed to find love again and was united in marriage to Dwayne Bender on July 05, 1991, in Gorham.  She was the office manager for Rapid Cash in Russell, for 20 years.  She enjoyed sewing, going to the lake, fishing, bird and squirrel watching, wood working, thrift shopping, drag racing, drinking beer and playing corn hole.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren, watching them play sports and spoiling them.

Surviving family include her husband Dwayne of the home; sons Jerry Suchy and wife Tara Brown of Russell, Kansas, Jason Suchy and wife Camille of Russell, Kansas and Jamie Suchy and wife Carry of Tonganoxie, Kansas; brother Gary Hammersmith and wife Linda of Hays, Kansas and 8 Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Francis and Jerry Hammersmith and sisters Velma Jean Davis and Carolyn Holloway. Cremation has been selected by the family.

Cremation has been selected by the family. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Burial of the cremains will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Gorham, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Monday, April 19, 2021, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday evening.  Memorials can be given to the Russell Wrestling Club and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
