Matt R. Driscoll

Matthew Rein Driscoll passed away Saturday, October 17th 2020. He was born January 29, 1978 in Salina, KS and was the oldest of four boys.

Matt attended Elementary, Middle & High School in Russell, KS graduating in 1997. He was always active in school and community affairs, an Honor student and an Eagle Scout.

He attended the University of Kansas. While at KU he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 2001. He was a lifetime member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association. After graduation he traveled to New York City and was employed by Sotheby’s. He enjoyed his work with them appraising, valuing and selling antiques and works of art. After the events of 9/11/01 he wanted to move closer to Kansas. He was employed with J.P. Morgan in Kansas City for a few years. He subsequently decided he wanted something different. He enrolled and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary institute in Scottsdale, AZ. After receiving his degree he was employed as a chef in various restaurants from Alaska to the Mid-West. He was affiliated with and instructor at NCK Technical College in Hays, KS. He was also employed with Driscoll Law Office and a member of the Russell City Council.

Survivors are his partner Dustin Poche; parents: Jerry & Patty Driscoll; brothers: Brody (Courtney) Driscoll; Casey (Kayla) Driscoll; Ryan (Alex) Driscoll; nephew: Chase Driscoll; nieces: Vayda, Maycie and Savanna Driscoll. He also left numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard and Colette Driscoll and Alvin and Lillian Rein.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 23, 2020, at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the mortuary.  A parish vigil and rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the Matthew R. Driscoll Memorial Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service.
