Michael Clark Whisler, 67, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, June 07, 2023, at his home in Russell.
Michael was born on January 05, 1956, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Francis Clark and Patricia Lew (Brockett) Whisler. He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School. After high school he attended Hutchinson Community College and the University of Kansas. Michael moved around for several years before settling in Arizona where he worked for the forestry department building trails and fighting fires. About 20 years ago, he moved back to Russell, Kansas, where he made his permanent home and was a self-employed painter in Russell and the surrounding area. He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, collecting rocks, geology, golf, woodworking, fishing, growing sunflowers, and playing and listening to music.
Surviving family include his daughter Jessica Cunningham and husband Brent of Glen Elder, Kansas, sister Susan Albers and husband Fred of Overland Park, Kansas and grandchildren Drew, Tanna and Bailee Cunningham. He leaves a niece, Holly Albers, nephew Jordan Albers and a great nephew, Maddox, all in the Kansas City area. He also leaves special aunts and many dear cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. also on Wednesday, July 12th at the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, are in charge of the gathering service arrangements.
